Aging Is Not for Sissies provides a package of workshops, performances
and products to inspire aging adults in general and older single women
in particular, to cultivate healthy and balanced perspectives on the
experience of aging. This project takes issue with the stereotyped view
held by our youth-oriented, age-phobic culture. It presents a way of
lining in harmonious alignment with one’s own values and with the real
experience of the process at various stages of aging.
- To focus attention on the special concerns of all adults, but especially single women as they age.
- To inform the public of creative solutions and strategies for dealing with these concerns.
-
To reach out to women and organizations across the country to support,
enlighten and improve social attitudes and the collective consciousness
regarding aging in general and aging for single women in particular.
- To promote changes which improve older women’s lives.
This project serves as a vehicle for:
- Empowering those who are aging, especially women, through humor, compassion and support.
-
Learning and teaching about older adults’ concerns through the
composition and dissemination of poignant stories, reports and
research.
- Improving the lives of those who are
aging by providing workshops, products and resources, as well as
bookings for the already popular play based on touching monologues.
This project’s products and activities are designed to promote
authenticity and dignity among and for aging adults, especially women.
